I was over at the Sair in Linthwaite near Huddersfield a week or two ago now, fantastic pub, great atmosphere and fantastic choice of beers brewed on the premises.
The Sair is also home to the small Linfit brewery, I found the English Guineas Stout (ABV 5.3%) utterly stunning. This is about as close to 'pub heaven' as you'll ever get
I had the good fortune of visiting the Sair in Linthwaite the other week, what a great pub,
good comfortable atmosphere, and great homebrewed beers and fine ales.
The Sair is also home to a small brewery, Linfit, which brews a range of real ales including "Janet Street Porter" and "Leadboiler" (named after locals who were reputed to have tried to melt lead using boiling water). Another of their fine brews is the English Guinees
A real gem of a pub, quirky little rooms, open fire, friendly service, great music and real ales brewed on the premises – Go visit I promise you won’t be disappointed"
"A real gem of a pub, full of amazing curiosities spread over four rooms. Fortunately, it doesn't seem contrived, the objects seemingly accumulated over many years. And the beer, all brewed on site, is to die for. I found the English Guineas Stout (ABV 5.3%)
utterly stunning. This is about as close to 'pub heaven' as you'll ever get.
Here is a list of other brews:Mild (ABV 3.0%)
Roast malt dominates in this straight forward dark mild which has some hops in the aroma and a slightly dry flavour. Malty finish.
Bitter (ABV 3.7%)
A refreshing session beer. A dry-hopped aroma leads to a clean tasting, hoppy bitterness, then a long, bitter finish with a hint of malt.
Cuckoo Ale (ABV 4.2%)
Brewed for the Marsden Cuckoo Festival.
Ginger Beer (ABV 4.2%)
Gold Medal (ABV 4.2%)
Swift (ABV 4.2%)
Inviting hop aroma followed by a strong, hop bitterness, with a long, satisfying, bitter finish. Previously Summer Ale.
Special (ABV 4.3%)
Dry-hopping provides the aroma for this rich and mellow bitter, which has a very soft profile and character: it fills the mouth with texture rather than taste. Clean, rounded finish.
Janet Street Porter (ABV 4.5%)
A smooth, dry porter with a bitter, roasted malt character.
Autumn Gold (ABV 4.7%)
A straw-coloured best bitter with hop and fruit aromas, then the bittersweetness of autumn fruit in the taste and finish.
English Guineas Stout (ABV 5.3%)
A fruity, roast aroma preludes a smooth, roasted malt, chocolatey flavour which is bitter but not too dry. Excellent appearance; good bitter finish.
Old Eli (ABV 5.3%)
A well-balanced premium bitter with a dry-hopped aroma and a fruity, bitter finish.
Smoke House Ale (ABV 5.3%)
A German-style 'rauch bier', brewed with Franconian malt.
Baht Ale (ABV 5.5%)
Springbok Bier (ABV 5.7%)
A pale amber beer with hops balanced by a subtle maltiness in the taste. Hoppy aroma; bitter finish.
Leadboiler (ABV 6.6%)
Powerful malt, hop and fruit in good balance on the tongue, with a well-rounded bittersweet finish.
Enoch's Hammer (ABV 8.6%)
A straw-coloured, vinous bitter with no pretensions about its strength or pedigree. A full, fruity aroma leads on to a smooth, alcoholic-tasting, hoppy, bitter flavour, with an unexpectedly bitter finish.
Christmas Ale (ABV 8.6%)
A dangerously drinkable pale beer, not too sweet on the palate, but with a wonderful taste. Only available throughout the Christmas season.
